Ongoing volunteer opportunities
Do you speak more than one language? Are you looking to practice a language you are learning? Language Cafe meets monthly at the Main Library on the 2nd Saturday from 1:00-3:00pm. Volunteers are needed to lead table conversations in a variety of languages. More information about the program can be found on EPL's site. For High School Students only- Book Buddies at Robert Crown Library begins Thursday, September 26th from 4:30-5:30 pm and meets every Thursday throughout the school year. Volunteers MUST sign up ahead of time. Sign up.
Children's area toy cleaner. Main Library- ongoing and as needed. Volunteer to clean toys in the children's area of the Main Library. Contact Cherie Asante at casante@cityofevanston.org if interested in volunteering.
Plant Maintenance and Watering. Volunteers are needed to care for and water the many, many plants throughout the Main Library. Contact Cherie Asante at casante@cityofevanston.org if interested in volunteering.
Serve as Greeter at EPL: Contact Cherie Asante, EPL volunteer coordinator, if interested at casante@cityofevanston.org. You would receive training for this volunteer role which is open to adults only.
Post flyers for EPL events: Help organize, deliver and hang flyers at various locations around Evanston. This volunteer opportunity is open to anyone 14 or older. A car or bike is helpful, but walking is doable. Contact Cherie Asante at casante@cityofevanston.org if interested.
Main Library Teen Loft support. Varied tasks will be assigned. Contact Cherie Asante, EPL volunteer coordinator at casante@cityofevanston.org, if interested.
Special Request- Due to an injury, an able-bodied volunteer is needed to accompany a staff member to site visits in March (dates & locations below). This will include:
Lifting 2 canvas bags of books and DVDs out of a cart and putting them in her car.
Folding the cart and putting it in the back of her car.
Taking out the bags and cart and pulling the cart into the venue.
Hanging out during the site visit (they can sit apart from me and read or use their phone, if they like).
Pull the cart out of the venue, and reload the bags and cart into the car.
Unload the bags and cart from the car and pull the cart into the Library and up to either my office on the 4th Flr or to the back of Circulation.
